Virtual Report Launch: The State of Undocumented Educators in New York State

CUNY-IIE hosted the virtual launch of the report titled “The State of Undocumented Educators in New York” on Tuesday, February 28 from 7:00pm - 8:00pm ET. 

The report highlights the experiences of DACA recipients and undocumented professionals in the field of education. Based on focus groups and a survey of undocumented immigrants and DACA recipients, the report describes the challenges and conditions faced by undocumented immigrants to obtain a degree in education and work in their field. The report was authored by Guadalupe Ambrosio, Carlos Perez Valle, Isamar Jimenez-Vazquez, Farah Said, and Laura Pamplona from the UndocuEdu team at CUNY-IIE. 

Speakers provided an overview of the main findings from the report and recommendations for various institutions to support and guide undocumented educators. 

Panelists included:

  • Guadalupe Ambrosio, Associate Investigator for UndocuEdu at CUNY-IIE and Co-Executive Director of the New York State Youth Leadership Council

  • Isamar Jimenez-Vazquez, Project Researcher for UndocuEdu at CUNY-IIE and educator

  • Dr. Cynthia Carvajal, CUNY Director of Undocumented and Immigrant Student Programs

The webinar was moderated by Dr. Sara P. Alvarez, Interim Co-Principal Investigator and Assistant Professor of English at Queens College, CUNY.
