Immigration in Secondary Schools

Watch the Video

This video highlights a high school Dream Team, and shows how other schools can start their own club for immigrant justice.

It also shows how a school counselor ensures that undocumented students have access to information about attending and funding college.

About the Video Series

CUNY-IIE has worked together with educators and community members to create professional development modules around the Supporting Immigrants in Schools Video Series videos: Key Immigration Issues, Immigration in Elementary Schools, Immigration in Secondary Schools, and Refugees and Immigrants in Schools.

Each module features a set of activities and guides to help educators learn, act, and advocate in the classroom.

Check Out the Accompanying Module

This module is organized around three main areas of focus for secondary educators.

Focus A supports educators in creating a school culture that welcomes immigrant-origin students, offering practical steps to show all students they belong.

Focus B provides an overview of federal and NY State policies around college access and financial aid, especially for undocumented students, to help educators guide students beyond high school.

Focus C includes resources for starting a Dream Team or facilitating other youth empowerment activities that give immigrant students agency and voice in their schools.
