CUNY-IIE invites public school counselors across New York State to apply for its Fall 2026 professional learning series.

This opportunity is designed to support counseling practices with immigrant and multilingual students.

In these workshops, counselors will explore CUNY-IIE's resource, Supporting Immigrant Students and Families: A Guide for New York State Secondary School Counselors, to reflect on their current practices as school counselors in support of immigrant-origin students and their families. Through discussions and peer-collaboration, participants will also learn about practices implemented from school counselors who work in varied settings with immigrant-origin students and families. To conclude the series, participants will create an action plan for their own school community.

Participants who complete the workshop requirements will receive a $200 stipend. The program includes two required synchronous sessions and approximately three hours of asynchronous independent work.

Participant Requirements:

Participants must work as a school counselor at a New York State public middle or high school.
The workshop includes participation in two mandatory 2-hour synchronous sessions and an additional 3 hours of asynchronous independent work.
Interested applicants should fill out this short google form by October 5, 2026. The form will be closed when capacity is reached. Please note that completing this form does not guarantee acceptance.

This virtual module focuses on adopting translanguaging pedagogy to support immigrant-origin students in PK-12 classrooms. Earn 15 CTLE credits learning to leverage linguistic and cultural practices students bring to schools.

Trauma Informed Practice in Elementary Schools CTLE Course

This virtual module focuses on best practices for supporting immigrant-origin students in elementary classrooms. Earn 15 CTLE credits learning to identify trauma indicators, explore trauma-informed pedagogy, and support families.

Immigration and Education in Turbulent Times CTLE Course

This virtual module provides hands-on learning about historical and current immigration events and policies. Earn 15 CTLE credits while learning to create safe environments and support immigrant students academically, linguistically, and socio-emotionally.

Immigration In Elementary Schools CTLE Course

This virtual professional development module supports educators in developing stronger relationships with immigrant students and families and collaborating with community-based partners. Earn 15 CTLE credits using literature to discuss immigration.

Empowering Immigrant Students in Secondary Schools CTLE Course

This virtual module helps educators explore advocacy in schools, support immigrant-origin students with college and career access, and empower youth. Earn 15 CTLE credits while connecting with community stakeholders.

Refugees and Immigrants in Schools CTLE Course

This virtual module helps participants understand refugee and forced migrant realities to facilitate student learning in new settings. Earn 15 CTLE credits while raising awareness, understanding, empathy, and competence.
